Round Eyeglasses – What Goes A Round…
Posted by Eyeglasses Guy on July 27, 2007 · 98 Comments
Young wizards. Philosophers. Artists, actors, writers, musicians, inventors – the likes of Benjamin Franklin, Dominic Dunne, Ghandi, Ozzy Osbourne, Philip Johnson and John Lennon have all been drawn to a signature eyewear look – Round glasses. And although it might be the last time around for Harry Potter (we will believe that when we read it), who first entered the scene with his round frame in 1997 one thing is certain: This is just another round for an eyeglass design that’s a perennial favorite with wearers of all ages (Note: see our follow-up Perfectly Round Eyeglasses Frames).

I am looking for round frames with magnetic sunglasses – any thoughts on where I could get them..?
Like other posters I am getting extremely ticked off with glasses advertised as *round* which are actually oval. In fact I ordered a pair that were advertised as round only to discover that they were not. I am perplexed why these kinda glasses are so difficult to purchase. I have john lennnon roundglasses frames that I got in the late 90s that are now getting past it and have been looking for a replacement and having a lotta trouble.
Here are some additional suggestions.
Ray Ban RX 51284
Polo PH 2037
Polo 2047
Polo PH 2052
Lafont Jupiter
Lafont Aristo
Although I can’t point you to those exact frames, you might want to look at a similar style:
Very close: John Lennon Sgt. Pepper Eyeglasses.

Hello, I am looking for these glasses: http://www.wowvintage.com/v/vspfiles/photos/367CTORT-1.jpg this is the only place that I have been able to find them, however, I don’t want cheap retro copycats. I cannot find them anywhere.
Thanks.
I ran across this thread searching for some additional round frames that are a little different from the Anglo American frames I just bought.
As Athena mentions below, Anglo American does have some great round glasses, however. They’re a fairly old, and it seems well-respected, English company with US headquarters in Chicago. The AA Web site is terrible, though, and doesn’t show a complete listing of all their frames–Frames Direct doesn’t sell them (maybe if they’re nagged enough they will!), but as Athena also mentions, lots of places on the Web do. Round models are 116, 180, 221 and 400. They have a number of different tortoise shell style finishes, but all round models don’t come in all the same finishes, and all places that sell them don’t offer all styles in all finishes!!! (As you can see, I recently put a little effort into researching these for myself. I ended up with some 400s in demi-blonde–a thinner cross section than the others, and a straight-across bridge and a finish that’s a soft blending of light amber and golden brown tones.)
AA doesn’t seem to have a lot of retail outlets, but you will be able to find them in at least some optometrist’s (probably shops that cater to a more upscale, fashionable clientele) in larger cities. (If you have insurance, you’ll want to fin and optometrist to go through, however, as AA does not do insurance sales.)
My optometrist did agree to order a set of frames for me directly from AA. I guess a problem with special orders like this with optometrists is that most manufacturers want to sell multiple frames wholesale instead of just one, so you’re usually stuck with what brands any given shop normally displays on their walls. When my optometrist called AA and found out they can buy just one frame at a time, they agreed to order directly for me.

I am looking for the frames worn by an actor playing Prof. Nathaniel Burke in the Farmers Insurance commercial. Very conservatve frame. Just what I’m looking for. Do you know which company might make them?
Mark!! please tell me what this website is…….I need those glasses!!!

Leon the Professional Shades FOUND!
Check these out. They are not exact, but VERY VERY similar.
Anglo American makes the real thing — ROUND (actual circles) frames. FramesDirect doesn’t sell them but you can find them elsewhere on the net.
Bernie and his rant were right on the money. I have been all over the area trying to get “round” glasses and no one understands “round” as in a circle. When I repeatedly asked if anyone in my optometrists’ office knew what round is, I was invited to find another doctor. I went to another one and they said round was the latest fashion and then showed me ovals. Please! Does anyone working in optometrists offices have brains larger than sea slugs?
From the pictures it is a bit difficult to tell exactly which ones they are, but they look almost identical to some of the frames within the following collections:
John Lennon eyeglasses
Berkshire Chase eyeglasses
Savile Row eyeglasses
I’ve been wearing round-ish glasses most of my life and I’m always on the lookout for something I like. I saw this guy and like the glasses so I’d be interested in what they might be. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Here’s what Candace, our customer service manager says:
I would have suggested that exact same line. That frame has plenty of room for a progressive. With new lens technology; progressives can be put into frames with verticals as narrow as 25 mms.
I am seeking a round – or close to round – lens with a wide bridge; for example, 40|24. The closest I have been able to find is the John Lennon JL 108 but its depth – 32.5mm – seems too shallow for a progressive lens.
What do you suggest?
what kind or round circle glasses was John Denver waring in the early-mid seventies I noticed b the end of hte seventies he was wearing squares
According to our opticians, yes, we can use the Artcraft pattern on the Silhouette chassis. Silhouette’s mounting system would be better than using the Airlock chassis.
Thanks. Yes, I know that the Artcraft Artbilt Rimway is still available. It’s a very old -style frame, and has the half-rim behind the lens, and the very prominent screws in the lenses.
I’m looking for a contemporary Airlock or Silhouette type chassis — true rimless — but with the lens shape of the Artcraft — overall, a much more updated look.
Can an Artcraft lens pattern be used to make lenses for a Silhouette chassis?
We can still get the Artcraft frame you are referring to. It is still the original version. It is the Artcraft Artbilt Rimway.
I’m looking for the rimless glasses that Donald Rumsfeld is wearing on the cover of the new book about him — they look like an Airlock or Silhouette version of the old Art-craft drill mount with the parametric octagonal lens.
Barring that, can you suggest any updated versions of the ArtCraft Art-Build parametric lens rimless?
The correct spelling for his name is Gandhi
Cheers,
Divya
Hello, I was just wondering if anyone can indentify what kind of glasses Ellsworth Bunker (U.S. diplomat in the 60′s) is wearing in this picture (or if you see anything close to it in your current stock, please do notify me):

Any help would be appreciated,
Thanks,

Every time “The Professional” movie plays on cable we get questions about those sunglasses. Unfortunately, we have never been able to track down what they are. It is possible they were custom made for that movie and never available to the public.
However, you might want to know that Berkshire Chase offers a custom made frame reproduction service. You can read more about it at http://www.berkshirechase.com . Might be something to look into.
We have been unable to find out what those are in “The Professional” and it is a FREQUENTLY asked question. It’s possible that they were custom made for the movie or are no longer available. If any of our readers comes across any information, please post it here!
since years looking for the sunglasses Jean Reno wears in ‘Leon – The Professional’ . any clue?
A guess would be Oliver Peoples, but that is just a guess.
Anyone else have any ideas?
hi,
have you seen billy connollys round glasses? they are phenomenally amazing, any chance you would who makes them? you can see him wearing them in “journey to the edge of the world”
thanks

I am looking for the round tortoise shell frames worn by Ron Rifkin on Brothers and Sisters and where I can purchase them.
Thanks
I too want to know what tortoise shell frames Fred Barnes wears on Fox News – & where they can be purchased.
Thanks!
I’d like to know who makes the round glasses Bruce Cockburn wears?
Take a look at our post Perfectly Round Eyeglasses where we provide links and descriptions to many of the round frames we offer. Lafont offers a couple that are similar.
Hi, I’m looking for the round frames worn by that famous/iconic architect, Philip C Johnson.
Do you stock it, or anything similar?
I read some about the sunglasses that Jean Reno wears in the movie ‘Leon – The Professional’. I have been searching for the sunglasses. Does anybody have any idea?
Sorry, but we just don’t know. Part of the problem is the lack of really good pictures of Reno wearing the glasses. Most just don’t give us a good idea of what they are or what we could suggest.
If any of our readers has the answer, please post it. If we do find out, we’ll definitely post it as well.
3rd request for anything you can do to help find the same or similar model of glasses worn by Jean Reno in The Professional.
thank you.
I too want the glasses Gayle wore on 4/24. Any luck?
I guess I am really asking you to be a detective. I am trying to determine what the style, brand, etc. are the frames Gayle King wore on the Oprah show, Friday, April 24. 2009. I would like to order a pair. Perhaps, someone with your expertise saw the show. They were bright rainbow colored, rectangular in shape, appeared plastic type and just so outstanding. Thanks! Gretchen
Please identify eyeglasses worn by Fred Barnes on Fox News

Take a look at the Berkshire Chase English Warwick in the answer I posted above. It is now available in a Tokyo Tortoise color, which is a newly released color that only FramesDirect.com is authorized to sell. You will not be able to purchase anywhere else in the United States.
It’s a really nice frame.
Harry Potter is wearing the Berkshire Chase English Warwick in a Black acetate front / Silver Bridge / Silver Skull temples.
Not sure about the John Lennon yet.
I’m looking for a round frame with thick tortoise shell; temples are also thick tortoise shell. I think the ones used to have were designed by Claibourne.
Stand back. This rant has been brewing for some time:
Extraordinary, the lack of understanding there is amongst frame suppliers, of the simple term “round”. Go into a shop, ask for “round”, and watch their confused faces when you point out to them that what they are showing you, is plainly oval, not round. Even the John Lennon company utterly fails to produce round frames! Shame on them! Who are they trying to kid?? Of all the brands I’ve checked out that are mentioned in this thread, only Berkshire Chase makes ROUND glasses. Round means round. OK? It’s simple: 360 degrees. Not flattened a bit to make them more normal looking. I want Geeky! I want Ugly! I want PROPERLY, PERFECTLY ROUND. Where else can I go?
Can you please identify these exact glasses that Harry Potter is wearing in this picture? Is the correct description: Berkshire Chase Savile Row Warwick Silver with Black Acetate and Black covered Skull Temples.
And are the glasses John Lennon wearing: Berkshire Chase Savile Row Warwick in Gold?
I also have been searching for a while for eyeglasses that Jean Reno wore in The Professional. I noticed there was a prior posting, but no response. Would like to get 2 pair. Any help?
Could you please tell me what kind of glasses Margaret Carlson wears? She works for Bloomberg News and is often a guest on the Keith Oberman Show. They are small round tortoise Shell glasses.
We think those are Ray Ban RX 5112 eyeglasses in tortoise. Similar frames include the Polo PH2006 in color 5023, Lafont Aristo, Lafont Jupiter and possibly the Hart 150 eyeglasses frames.
You also might want to take a look at Berkshire Chase eyeglasses. They have a nice selection of round frames.
I’m looking for 80′s style, horn rimmed, round, tortoise shell glasses. (Yuppy Wall Street style) Similar to those worn by Fred Barnes.
Any suggestions?
Lafont eyeglasses has some similar styles.
Hello. I’m looking for round glasses like the Chakra Eyewear’s Loop model, but with a completely round frame not an oval one. Also I’ve been looking for a Pince-Nez round frames but other than eBay I can’t find any.
Any idea of the brand and style of glasses Ozzy Ozbourne is wearing in the commercial for the World of Warcraft video game?
Dan,
I have listed a few options for you below, each of a different price range. I hope this helps. Let me know if this is not what you are looking for so that we can continue to help you further.
Lafont Argos eyeglasses
Berkshire Chase Savile Row Round 14kt eyeglasses
Berkshire Chase Savile Row Round 14kt (with rimming) eyeglasses
Berkshire Chase English Warwick eyeglasses
Berkshire Chase English Warwick-Nose Pads eyeglasses
*Note: The Berkshire Chase Saville Row Round 14kt and the English Warwick are the same frame, but the only difference is that the English Warwick is not 14kt.
Sincerely,
Jennifer
I’m looking for a metal full-rim frame that is nearly or completely round. The JL frames are more oval than what I want. The Art-Craft Art-Bilt 100A-ST is round enough but too big, I’m looking in the 42-44 range and it only goes down to 46. The Flexon 623 was also close, but too big and now discontinued. Flex frames or spring hinges would also be nice to have. Any suggestions?
Although I don’t know of those exact frames, you might want to take a look at the Berkshire Chase eyeglasses selections. Berkshire Chase also has the ability to duplicate eyeglass frames and custom make them.
I’m looking for some round plastic frames. I don’t want them to be too small or too large. I’m not looking for Lennon glasses. Something like these
http://luckyjane.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/yeats.jpg
What size would be good? Is 50 too large? how about 45? I’ve got a slightly larger than normal head by the way. Thank you.
FYI, the frame John Lennon is wearing on the cover of the biography John Lennon: The Life is the Algha Beaufort P3 Center Mount. It is gold-filled and has black acetate. Algha group frames are distributed by Berkshire Chase here in the U.S., so we can order this frame, but it is a special order from London that will take 4-6 weeks and it is non-refundable once the order is placed because it will be a special-made frame for the customer here in the U.S. It is the same price as the Panto Beaufort 14kt eyeglasses frames listed on our website. The only difference between the Beaufort P3 Center Mount and the Panto Beaufort 14kt is that the temple pieces sit on top of the frame on the Beaufort P3 Center Mount.
Please call Candace at 800.248.9427 x221 if you would like her to order this frame for you.
We carry quite a few children’s eyeglasses collections. We have three collections in particular that have a round eye shape model(s) within the collection. If you are not in favor of any of the collections that I listed above, here are a list of all of the other children’s collections that we have to offer, but to my knowledge, none have a round eye shape, but some do have an oval shape.

I am looking for some “Harry Potter-esque” eyeglasses for my son, age 3. Because he falls a lot, titanium would be the best choice I think. I want them as round as possible, not oval. Currently he has Flexon Kids Marchon in Denim with the numbers 90 and 115 on one side and on the other side is says 115 and then 41017. They are prescription transition lens.
Also if there was some kind of glasses that wouldn’t cut into him when he falls, that would be fantastic. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Ernie Cohen

I am looking for round, rimless glasses. I recently saw a TV news reporter (station ?) which looked perfectly round.

The only way they will find an Armani that is that old is by getting lucky in an optical store. Those have been discontinued for a long time…different manufacturer than now too.
William:
If you have the brand and model number/name of your eyeglasses, as well as the size and color description or color code, that would be most helpful. We can oftentimes have a clip custom made for your frame, but we would need to know the specifics of what you have.
All information should be stamped on your temple piece, which is the frame part that extends from your temple to you ear.
Example:
Brand: Giorgio Armani or GA or G.Armani
Model: 10
Color: 0003
Size: 49/20-135
If you need assistance, please feel free to call me directly at 800.248.9427 x220.
Sincerely, Jennifer
Trying to find perfectly round, clip on sunglasses for my prescription glasses that are almost perfectly round. Can you help?
Looking for an old Armani style from aprox 10 years ago: round tortoise frame nose bridge & fames are tortoise.
Lunor is an exclusive German designer line that is only in high end optiques or boutiques. We cannot get this product.
While in Paris (year 2000) I purchased a pair of round frames from Paris Miki & would like to find another of the same. They were Lunor or Lunar (brand/model?), had a stamp (Germany) inside the right temple. They were all metal, silver color, had no nose pads & the temples were two piece (extendable length) which were straight (not curved behind the ear). Any help locating a source would be appreciated.
Some of the best round frames available can be found in our Berkshire Chase eyeglasses catalog, particularly the Savile Row Panto Beaufort 14kt eyeglasses and the English Beaufort 2 eyeglasses as pictured in our post Indiana Jones Eyeglasses where you can get an idea of their size on Harrison Ford. They are fairly large.
I am trying to find large round men’s frames for my new prescription eyeglasses. I have this syle “from back in the day” but have been unable to find them locally. Please advise to any sites that have large round men’s frames in stock. I need to order asap.
Will,
I would recommend a collection called Berkshire Chase. This collection has several different styles that have the look that you are searching for. I would suggest the Berkshire Chase Savile Row Diaflex Centre Joint 14kt model. This model is a drill mount style that will allow you to select the size that you desire. We could have that model cut to a 32mm size. It would be best if you were to place the order over the phone so that we get the exact measurements.
Please call Candace at 1-800-248-9427 xt 221 and she will be happy to assist you with any further questions.
I have been searching for a pair of sunglasses with round frames (in the Lennon style) but smaller. Ideally the diameter would be roughly 32 mm. The smallest I have seen on this site is 39 mm. Is there any frame that matches (or approaches) my requests?
1. Yes, you certainly can.
2. The John Lennon eyeglasses on this site are the official brand frames and what are available as such. It is interesting that more perfectly round frames aren’t offered in the collection since those are what we most remember him wearing.
1) You can change out the lenses of your old glasses so you can re-use the frames if you’d like.
2) John Lennon round glasses on this site are not very accurate. The real thing are Windsor type reproduction glasses.
This question has been asked several times before and we have tried to find the answer, but so far have not been able to track them down.
If we do, we’ll certainly post it here. In the meantime, if any of our readers discover the secret to Leon’s mysterious sunglasses, please share!
I want glasses like Leon from the film Leon-The Professional! Do they exist?
Berkshire Chase has the ability to duplicate eyeglass frames and custom make them however I do not think they use titanium.
I am also a fan of Stargate SG-1, but can’t be sure of the frames Michael Shanks wore in those early seasons. I cannot say for sure but they look like an old Oliver Peoples style frame. Look like all acetate on top and bridge and metal core and eyewires? Pretty much an old P3 shape as well.
Unfortunately pads are an accessory that we don’t carry. You can probably find these in chain stores.
I am looking for round eyeglasses with cable temples in Titanium (similar to Bekshire Chase Savile Row Diaflex High Joint or Panto but in titanium).
Also, what round eyeglasses were worn by Michael Shanks in the early Stargate series?
I am looking for rap around pads for cable temples behind the ear.I hope you can help me.Thanks.
You might want to take at look at Brooks Bros 3001 . This frame is available in 49/19. The John Lennon collection also has small frames similar the description of your last pair. Some of the Berkshire Chase frames might also work for you.
Hi, I have a very strong prescription and have only had one pair of glasses I was comfortable wearing. They have round lenses that hide the thick edges. I recently had my eyes examined and need new glasses. They no longer have the frames I loved. My lens size is 41 – 22 but I have a very narrow bridge and could go down to a 19. My current pair is black but that is not necessary. Can you recommend a frame that will work for me?
Looking for tortoise round frames comparable to the discontinued Berkshire Chase Burley or Polo. Preference would be classic round frames in that color/very difficult to locate. Thank You!
The John Lennon eyeglasses on our site are from the official collection. You might want to take a look at the John Lennon J.L. 214 frames, which are round.
In addition, he wore the Berkshire Chase Savile Row Panto eyeglasses frames and the Savile Row Warwick eyeglasses in Rhodium (silver).
I saw the style of John Lennon glasses on your website and what I’m looking for is rounder than what you have. Did I miss something? I know the John Lennon style glasses are perfectly round and not at all oval.
The Berkshire Chase Beaufort 2 and Berkshire Chase Savile Row Round 14KT model are good options. These are two of the most popular models sold.
I have been searching in vain for a patient…Please help if you can .
Needed: Completely round zyl tortoise (dark) with spring hinges if possible for adult.
Many thanks in advance !
I have been searching for a while for eyeglasses like Jean Reno wore in The Professional. Can you assist? I have a prescription and would like to purchase a pair or at least a very similar type of frame.
If you have an old pair of frames, you’ll probably find the frame size inside them. See my post What’s My Eyeglass Frame Size? Otherwise, you’ll need to get measured. If you have additional questions, call one of our opticians at 1-800-248-9427.
Hello,
I just recently had my eyes rechecked and told the doctors office I want round frames only. They only have the latest in 50s retro and the little square models. They have come back to me now saying they are not available or made any longer, that she “looked everywhere” (Ha!) I’d love to order one of yours and have them put the lenses in, but how do I know what size?
The Berkshire Chase Burley will come in the Tortoise with gold accents on the bridge and gold metal temples. The Berkshire Chase Burley image on our site shows this color of frame. The Berkshire Chase Burley is only available in this one color.
The Berkshire Chase Burley Polo is only available in the color Chestnut brown with gold accents on the bridge and hinge with an acetate Chestnut brown temple. The image can be viewed here: Berkshire Chase Burley Polo
Both frames are available and in stock.
The shipping times to Paris are as follows:
USPS: approximately 7-14 days depending on customs
Federal Express: approximately 3-7 days
I really do like Berkshire Chase round frames, especially the Burley ones (tortoise model on picture).
I just wonder if they’re tortoise and silver or tortoise and gold?
Or if close Burley Polo model is available in silver instead gold metal?
Anyway, I’d like to order some to FramesDirect if one of those is available.
May you please give me an idea about delivery times for such an item to be in receipt from Paris, France?
Thanks in advance
Marti,
The frame that Harry Potter wore is the Berkshire Chase English Warwick Silver with black trim skull temples. This frame is custom made by Berkshire Chase. It is available in all silver or gold, but unfortunately not in black. You may view the frame here: Berkshire Chase English Warwick.
I have searched our site and have not found a true “black” frame. The closest that is offered would be the Calvin Klein cK5108.
I hope this helps in your search.
I am looking for black round, horn rimmed Harry Potter Frames. I hope you can help me. Thank you. Marti
Having your lens prescription will allow us to validate which frames will or will not work for you. Each bifocal or progressive lens on the market is designed by the manufacturer, to work with specific frame measurements. All of our orders are handled by experienced opticians who closely evaluate the frame and lens choice chosen by the customer to make certain the combination will work and best suits the customer.
If I have a lens prescription, would you be able to validate that a particular frame will work. Example, I will need bi-focal lens. I am wanting to purchase some round frames. Once I was told that a particular frame would not work because the frame I was wanting would not allow lenses to be made to provide the vision correction reflected in my lens perscription. I understood at the time it had to do with the bi-focal aspect of the prescription. Would you be able to tell me, should I decide to purchase a set of frames from you, if the frames would allow an appropriate lens to be used to meet my vision needs? Please advise.
I would suggest the John Lennon Titanium JL 105, but it is important to take note that it comes in a small eye size, 45, and is more of an oval shape. I am not sure if you are interested in a completely round shape, but if you are then the JL 108 would be a better choice. The JL 108 is made of metal, but it is round and is one of our top sellers for the John Lennon eyeglasses collection.
I’m interested in purchasing John Lennon style eyeglass frames in Titanium. What do you suggest?
