I have bought from you two pair of these frames over the years and I love the style but the acetate workmanship is incredibly sloppy. The factory might say that they are glued on but my last pair had no glue. I learned this to my dismay as the acetate flipped off once and broke. As you can imagine, that instantly destroys the value of the $225 frame. It will not do to suggest that the customer krazy glue the acetate – I had to do this and its a mess. Although its “Nice” that the factory offers a roll of acetate, the factory ought have better quality control to begin with and ought offer the acetate in the pre-formed (molded) state as is used on the frame.

Were you able to offer a reasonably well made frame, I would buy 5 pair today.

Hello Folks,

I am looking to purchase (for my wife’s collection) plastic / ZYL eyeglass frames from the late 50′s and early 60′s with the plastic coated cable temples found on cat eye frames otherwise known as a riding bow or curlies. We would be most appreciative if anyone can provide contact information or a source for these type of glasses frames.

Just an update on the acetate for the Berkshire Chase frames. I am told that we can still get it but that the price has been adjusted as the product is now offered in a full roll.

It is important to note that an optician is needed to apply the acetate to the frame because unfortunately this is not something we recommend customers do themselves. If you would like to purchase the roll of acetate, it will cost $49 +shipping fees and it fits approximately four frames, thus you will have a supply that will last quite a while. The only way to purchase is to contact our office at 800-248-9427 x 248.

They are loose acetate which is hand applied to the frames. We can get you acetate from Berkshire Chase. It is applied to the frame with glue.

I bought a pair of these a few years ago. I like the look, but the acetate which covers the frame around the lens was loose and I had to use superglue to keep them on which was disappointing, and eventually I lost one side and decided to not wear them anymore. Do these frames have the loose acetate or are they part of the frame… and not loose? I’m referring to the Savile Row Panto Beaufort 14kt eyeglasses.

BOIC used to order the frames from the ALGA group who stamped the frames with the BOIC name. The Berkshire Chase Savile Row line are the exact same frames from the ALGA group but now are distributed by Berkshire Chase under the Savile Row line. They are one and the same.

I have been wearing BOIC frames for 35 years – I bought 6 sets of frames and I’m down to my last. Do you have a catalog for BOIC? They used to have several models like the Indiana Jones Beaufort above – like the poorboy version – or with silver cables – chestnut or darker plastic covers for the eyepiece etc. I need the cable temples. Do you provide just the frames – I wear progressive lenses and have my prescription. I’m glad I found your site – all of the eye doctors I’ve been to said they don’t make BOIC frames anymore – so I’m glad I held out.

The English Beaufort 2 is no longer available with half-covered chestnut/gold cable temples. It is however available in the same frame, but in 14kt gold, which is called the Berkshire Chase Panto Beaufort 14kt.

I want to get the “English Beaufort 2 eyeglasses” but I am unsure about the temples. I want the gold cable temples but with the Chestnut piece on the side? In other words, I don’t want just the solid gold cables. Does that make sense? Thanks for your help.

At this time, VSP won’t allow us to accept their insurance, partly we believe, because in many instances our prices are better on the website than what the consumer would pay using their insurance. We would be happy to help the thousands of VSP customers who would like to purchase through our site – but it is out of our hands unfortunately.
