Contact Lenses Are Easy To Wear

The concept of contact lenses began as early as 1508 with illustrations produced by Leonardo da Vinci. In 1823, Sir John Herschel came up with a lens design that was practical. In 1887, the first contact lenses were manufactured out of glass. A remarkable transition came from a glass lens that covered the entire eye to the present day contacts made from plastic and acrylics. Today a soft lens is comfortable to wear and gives astounding crystal visibility.

Contacts offer incredible vision as well supreme comfort. It is important that a good eye specialist help determine the right type of contact lenses. There are many obtainable brands. Everyone has a different shape to his or her eyes. When choosing a contact lens the eyes need to be checked and measured in order to get the correct fit of the contact. If the measurements are off just a bit, it can cause different problems. The contact may fit uncomfortably, or vision is not as clear as it could or should be.

Besides the different brands, many options are available. Soft contact lens offers disposable single use, daily wear and extended wear. Soft contacts are great for single vision and multifocal vision with the use of monovision lenses or bifocal lenses. Gas Permeable lenses is another choice. The gas permeable allows oxygen to get to your eyes. They are made of a firm plastic and last longer than soft contacts. For some people, they work better than soft contact lenses. Gas Permeable lenses are continually increasing in superior construction. The edges of gas permeable were sharp and caused irritation whenever the eye blinked. Adjusting to these lens took time. Today, the edges are polished and do not cause as much irritation as in the past.

Many people choose contact lenses over eyeglasses for several reasons. Eyeglasses that slip down the nose can be irritating to say the least. Glasses fog up when entering a warm room after being out in the cold. Breaking a lens or the frame of a pair of glasses can be a problem, especially if you do not have a backup pair or cannot get a replacement quickly. Glasses do not give you the needed peripheral vision. All of these problems can be eliminated with a pair of contact lens. However, contact lenses are not for everyone. The best way to find out is by talking with an eye care specialist.
