CooperVision Expands Parameters of Proclear 1 Day Disposable Contact Lenses

CooperVision has once again expanded the sphere powers of its Proclear 1 Day disposable contact lenses. Now available in a broader sphere power range from +8.00D to -12.00D, even patients in higher and lower sphere ranges can benefit from the health, convenience, and comfort of Proclear contact lenses in a daily disposable modality.

“One-day disposables have a patient compliance rate of 94 percent(1)—that’s the highest of all modalities,” said James Gardner, Sr. director of marketing, CooperVision. “With more patients than ever before now suited for Proclear 1 Day lenses, there is a real opportunity for practices to build loyalty and increase revenue, as patients are more likely to replenish their annual supply.”

As part of CooperVision’s PC Hydrogel™ family of lenses, Proclear 1 Day lenses are manufactured with patented PC Technology™, which keeps them moist and comfortable throughout the day. Additionally, the lenses are made with omafilcon A material, the only lens material with an FDA-cleared indication associated with improved comfort for contact lens wearers who experience mild discomfort or symptoms relating to dryness during lens wear.

Proclear 1 Day lenses feature aspheric front surface optics, which correct for lens and theoretical corneal aberrations, resulting in crisp, clear vision. The optimized lens design and handling tint also allow for easy lens insertion and removal, while the patented molded round edge reduces conjunctival interaction, resulting in continuous wearing comfort. Proclear 1 Day lenses are also as healthy as they are comfortable. Since they are replaced every day, the time for deposits like proteins and allergens to build up on the lenses is reduced. CooperVision Launches LensLocator(SM) for Practitioners

Innovative online resource takes complexity and time out of prescription process;
visit the site and CooperVision will make a donation to New Eyes for the Needy

As eye care professionals increasingly look for new ways to speed in-office patient care, CooperVision is responding by dramatically reducing the time it takes to prescribe the best fitting option for contact lens patients.

The company today unveiled its LensLocator(SM), a first of its kind online tool that allows doctors to easily search across CooperVision’s extensive portfolio of contact lenses to identify the most appropriate choices in seconds rather than several minutes.

The LensLocator can be accessed by practitioners from a computer or Web-enabled smart phone at http://www.LensLocator.com.

To help kick off the new site, CooperVision will be donating a dollar to New Eyes for the Needy for each unique visitor to LensLocator.com, up to $5,000. Endorsed by the American Academy of Optometry, New Eyes for the Needy is a non-profit volunteer organization that helps improve vision by providing new and recycled eyeglasses to children and adults worldwide.

“CooperVision offers one of the broadest portfolios of contact lenses in the industry, which provides practitioners with multiple options for each patient,” said Mark Bertolin, vice president, market technology, CooperVision.

Doctors simply enter a patient’s specific prescription, or any component of a prescription – such as sphere power, cylinder power, axis, ADD, modality, and wear schedule – into the LensLocator fields and then click on the search button. The tool automatically scans the entire CooperVision portfolio, ranging from spheres to multifocal toric lenses, and identifies options that contain all of the necessary information practitioners need to fit the patient. The site also provides a direct link to MyCooperVision, the company’s secure e-commerce site, so that doctors can immediately place an order for the lenses.

To further speed quality care at the time and point of need, CooperVision’s LensLocator tool has been designed to support the multiple ways that eye care professionals are working today. It will work on Web-capable smart phones and devices, including the iPhone® and iPod touch®, allowing eye care professionals to access a comprehensive list of CooperVision products while moving through a busy office, after hours, or off-site. The tool also provides an ideal resource for optometry students interested in what’s currently available from CooperVision, new staff members who are learning about contact lenses and the options that exist for patients, and practitioners with multiple office locations.

The LensLocator is also accessible through CooperVision’s practitioner website, http://www.coopervision.com. There, eye care professionals will also find an extensive range of resources for building their practices, including inventory and profitability calculators. When used in combination with the LensLocator, doctors have a powerful arsenal of tools to boost profitability and increase patient loyalty.

CooperVision Celebrates Success of Biofinity® Toric

With new expanded sphere powers, Biofinity Toric offers the broadest parameter
range of any silicone hydrogel toric on the market today

Introduced in March of this year, CooperVision’s Biofinity® Toric monthly silicone hydrogel contact lens has quickly become one of the most successful product launches in the company’s history. This overwhelming success has led to its third parameter expansion in only five months. Biofinity Toric is now available in expanded sphere powers of +6.50D to +8.00D and -8.50D to -10.00D, four cylinder powers, and axis around the clock.

Biofinity Toric’s success has helped make CooperVision’s Biofinity brand one of the most complete and fastest-growing families of silicone hydrogel contact lenses on the market today. CooperVision currently markets an aspheric lens and a toric lens under the Biofinity brand name. A Biofinity multifocal is expected to be introduced in 2010.

Since the launch of Biofinity Toric, the lens has gained significant popularity among practitioners and patients. This latest parameter expansion gives Biofinity Toric the broadest parameter range of any silicone hydrogel toric on the market, providing eye care practitioners with more options to fit their astigmatic patients in this lens.

“I’ve fit over one hundred patients in this product and I have been very impressed with this lens,” said Steven Lutz, O.D. “I feel that Biofinity Toric is the best toric lens that has ever entered the marketplace.”

Biofinity Toric Contact LensesBiofinity Toric is part of the CooperVision Total Toric Solution, which offers eye care practitioners the widest range of toric products and parameters in the industry.

“The benefits of our Aquaform® Comfort Science™ technology combined with our expertise and reputation for bringing outstanding toric contact lenses to market has helped Biofinity Toric become a winner from day one,” said Doug Brayer, marketing manager, CooperVision. “The acceptance of this lens from both patients and practitioners alike has been phenomenal. Soon, we expect to share results of a study proving that Biofinity Toric outperforms other silicone hydrogel toric market leaders when it comes to comfort and stability.”

Biofinity Toric is FDA approved for daily and extended wear in the United States. The lenses are manufactured from comfilcon A material, with a water content of 48 percent, Dk is 128, and Dk/t is 116. The lens features a base curve of 8.7mm; a diameter of 14.5mm; sphere powers of +8.00D to -10.00D; cylinders of -0.75, -1.25, -1.75, and -2.25; and axis from 10 degrees to 180 degrees in 10-degree steps.

Are You an Outdoor Person? Then UV Contact Lenses Are for You!

Do you like to do outdoor sports? That is a fun way of refreshing your body and mind, but not when you have to wear glasses. Wearing eyeglasses and sunglasses at the same time isn’t possible. Of course eyeglasses for UV protection have been invented, but that still won’t make you play outdoor basketball easier. Eye glasses can be a burden for instance, if you want to be a professional football player and your name is not Brett Favre.

When you’re running or playing tennis, the last thing you should worry about are your glasses. Although these help your vision, they can easily fall or be hit and broken, they can harm your ears or get steamy.

Did you ever think about using eye contact lenses while doing sports? It is about time you tried UV contact lenses.

The contact lens, as we all know by now, provides stable and keen vision, two things that sportsmen need on the field or on the street etc. By using lenses the danger of damaging your glasses or your nose, ears or any other kind of disturbing factor disappears. Due to the fact that the prescription contact lens is made of a water-absorbing material it will not get steamy and during the most thrilling part of the game won’t slide down on your nose like eyeglasses do.

UV radiation that penetrates the atmosphere and burns the skin also harms the eyes. People who stay outdoors for a longer time are put in twice as much danger of radiation. A UV contact lens will protect your eye from the harmful rays. They are designed to block 90% of the sun’s damaging rays, plus they are much more comfortable.

Precision UV contact lensesOne of the most famous UV lenses is Precision UV contacts. These are 1 or 2 week disposable contacts. The company that invented these types of daily lenses came up with the idea of putting a special tint in the lenses to make them visible when they are put in the cleaning solution. What’s interesting is that this tint doesn’t change the color of your eyes.

Precision UV lenses contain a large amount of water, precisely 74 % that makes them dry very hard. The material which they are made of is polymer and they are oxygen permeable.

If your eyeglasses have been causing pain till now, distracting your attention from the game, maybe it’s time you tried a new type of eye protection, especially when you have the chance to order contact lenses online.

Avaira® Contact Lenses Now in Extended Parameters

Additional plus powers afford greater selection of premium lenses for patients and practitioners

Avaira Contact LensesCooperVision has once again expanded the parameters of Avaira® two-week replacement silicone hydrogel lenses. With the addition of new plus sphere powers of +0.25D to +8.00D on a new 8.4mm base curve, Avaira’s parameter range now extends from -12.00D to +8.00D—creating even more options for eye care practitioners who want to fit their patients in a high performance silicone hydrogel lens.

“Adding new sphere powers further strengthens the product offering so that even more patients can experience the excellent comfort, health, and convenience that Avaira delivers ” said James Gardner, sr. director of marketing, CooperVision.”

Avaira contact lenses feature a naturally wettable material that keeps the lens moist without the need for surface treatments, additives, or wetting agents – aiding in optimal comfort and minimizing deposits. Avaira’s low modulus of 0.5MPa offers a lens material that is 30 percent softer than comparable two-week silicone hydrogel lenses. Additionally, the combination of Avaira’s high oxygen transmissibility and low modulus promotes corneal health and aids in lens-wearing comfort.

Avaira features CooperVision’s unique Aquaform® Comfort Science™ – the same unique technology that is found in the company’s Biofinity® monthly replacement silicone hydrogel contact lenses. Aquaform technology incorporates longer siloxane chains, which allows Avaira to achieve high levels of oxygen transmissibility while incorporating less silicone into the lens material. The result is a softer, more flexible lens material that stays moist throughout the day.

CooperVision’s premium third-generation silicone hydrogel lens is manufactured from enfilcon A material. Avaira features a UV blocker, as well as a proven aberration-neutralizing system. This system uses unique aspheric optics to enhance vision by minimizing spherical aberrations inherent in both the lens and the human eye. The lens also has an optimized back surface and rounded edge design for easy fitting and better comfort.

Avaira is available in a base curve of 8.4mm and 8.5mm, a diameter of 14.2mm, a Dk of 100, and a Dk/t of 125. The water content is 46 percent. Currently approved for daily wear throughout the United States, Avaira is available in a six-lens pack or a three-lens trial carton.
