About the Yellow Submarine:

Watch Original Trailer at IMDbThe Yellow Submarine was released in 1968. It is an animated musical fantasy based on the music of The Beatles. The film received mostly positive reviews from audiences and critics alike and is credited with bringing more interest in animation as a serious art form.

The Beatles, themselves, make a live action appearance at the end of the movie as Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, but the voices for their animated counterparts were actually performed by actors. In the movie, Pepperland, a cheerful music loving place guarded by Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, is besieged by the music-hating Blue Meanies, who lock the band away in a music-proof bubble. Pepperland’s mayor sends Old Fred out in a yellow submarine to get help. Old Fred travels to Liverpool where he finds Ringo, John, George, and Paul. He brings them back to Pepperland to free the land from the Blue Meanies.

Steve Jobs Eyeglasses…Or Should That be iGlasses?

So you’ve been inspired by the late Steve Jobs to change the world in breathtaking technological ways that will forever shape and influence the course of humanity? Great! But before you start tinkering away in your garage on the next big hi-tech wonder gadget; let’s make sure you look the part.

Steve Jobs was not only known for spinning out a string of creative gadgetry and businesses, but also for being quite a snappy dresser, if by snappy you mean predictable. By wearing the same thing every day, Jobs was able to ensure that none of his brain cells were wasted on answering questions like “Do these cuff links match this belt?” but were all focused on answering questions like “How can I make a telephone play Scrabble?”

Jobs will be forever remembered as the mega genius in jeans and a black shirt, but there is another part of his daily wardrobe that shouldn’t be overlooked: his eyeglasses!

Steve Jobs’ iconic rimless eyeglasses with round frames were the perfect complement to his personal style. They blended in so effortlessly with his appearance that you probably didn’t even know he wore glasses at all until you read this. Well guess what…he did! And you can too!

With the Savile Row Round Diaflex Rimless Eyeglasses from FramesDirect.com you can grace your face with the elegant brilliance of the Apple mastermind and be well on your way to inventing the next big world-changing innovation.

While Jobs’ eyeglasses were a custom made design, these classy Savile Row frames are nearly identical. They are made by hand in London, England and you can get them with single vision or progressive prescriptions. Added bonus: these were also worn by Eric Clapton!

With these frames you’ll be well on your way to changing humanity for the better with fantastic, computerized gadgets. I would recommend staying away from the smartphone market, though. That one is pretty well covered. What other unassuming device could you turn into a technological wonder that people would wait in line for all night? How about a toaster that’s also a universal remote!

Eyeglass Books for Kids

For kids, visiting the eye doctor and getting glasses can be a stressful time. Not only do they have to suffer through the somewhat alien experience of an eye exam (from a kid’s point of view anyway,) but then they have to get used to wearing a new pair of children’s eyeglasses all the time. For a kid who’s never had glasses, wearing new glasses can be physically distracting, and bring with them the fear of being made fun of by other children.

Here’s a few books you can share with your kids to make the experience of getting glasses a bit easier to deal with and the idea of having glasses enjoyable.

Arthur’s Eyes
After realizing that he is having trouble seeing, Arthur soon finds out he needs glasses. When Arthur returns to school with his new glasses his classmates tease him. Arthur decides not to wear his glasses, but in doing so finds himself in a some pretty embarrassing situations. Eventually, thanks to the help and support of his friends, Arthur finds that wearing glasses isn’t so bad after all.
Fancy Nancy: Spectacular Spectacles
In this addition to the Fancy Nancy I Can Read Series, Nancy’s friend Bree gets some new glasses. Nancy finds the glittery lavender frames to be simply spectacular, and after Bree’s story of her visit to the eye doctor, Nancy begins to wonder if her own eyesight is getting a little blurry.
Baby Duck and the Bad Eyeglasses
Poor Baby Duck. She’s just gotten new eyeglasses and she hates the way they make her look. Luckily Grandpa shows up with a wonderful surprise, and soon Baby Duck’s opinion about her new look changes.
Luna and the Big Blur: A Story for Children Who Wear Glasses
Things are bad enough when you have a weird name, but things get much worse for Luna when she has to wear glasses! Luna decides that wearing glasses is just too much. Kids will love all the funny mishaps Luna gets herself into when she stops wearing her eyeglasses. In the end, Luna learns that wearing glasses isn’t so bad after all.
I Really Absolutely Must Have Glasses
Lola has decided that she absolutely MUST have glasses, so she is going to see the eye doctor. This book helps young children learn what to expect when visiting the eye doctor for the first time and shows them that there is absolutely nothing wrong with wearing glasses.

Do you have a child who wears glasses? Were you a child who had to start wearing glasses? What tips and advice do you have for people with young children who are experiencing the eye doctor and wearing glasses for the first time?

Oakley Gascan 3D Glasses!

Whether or not 3D technology could or would “catch on” is moot – it has caught on. In fact, it is hugely popular. It was only a matter of time before the horribly unattractive 3D glasses of the past were replaced by style and functionality. That time has come.

As a leader in the eyewear industry Oakley is a trusted and respected name, both in eyeglasses or sunglasses everyone trusts Oakley and their craftsmen to provide the best products and materials. The Gascan is an example of one of Oakley’s most popular frames, and now the Oakley Gascan Sunglasses are available with (non-sunglass) 3D lenses!!

The Gascan 3D glasses work with only RealD® 3D technology. Whether that be in movie theaters or home entertainment systems, these RealD® 3D glasses are the perfect choice for someone who is ready to fully embrace the trends of the future, in both style and technology. 3D entertainment is not going anywhere, and neither are the stylistic choices made by Oakley.

So what sets these Oakley 3D Gascan’s above the competition? Unlike their cheap movie theatre hand out counterparts, these 3D glasses are the first optically correct 3D eyewear ever made. Ever made?! It’s true, previously, 3D glasses were manufactured for cheap, resuable and expendable pieces of equipment. With such limited use, interest in making the most optically sound version was little to none.

But with a growing trend in entertainment, both outside of the home and within, perfection of the technology was on the horizon. Oakley stepped up to the plate. This Oakley 3D Gascan utilizes HDO-3D™, which virtually eliminates visual distortion.

Oakley 3D Glasses are designed to work with a lot of popular 3D films.

Oakley 3D Glasses are designed to work with a lot of popular 3D films.

Designed with the epic three-point fit makes these Gascans fit as well as would be expected from any regular Oakley piece of eyewear. As we all know, Oakley takes great pains in making sure their equipment is comfortable, efficient and durable.

These 3D Gascans will even provide better view of the true color of the film or video game you are enjoying, better than any cheap movie theater disposable could ever hope of. Better light management is also thrown in to boot.

The thing to remember is that only with a RealD® 3D experience will these glasses work for you. Other types of 3D do exist so make sure your TV is a RealD® 3D experience. Widely used in movies theaters, the RealD® 3D is normally what you will find. They have a pretty good website of information if you are unsure as to which type of 3D you are using, but it is most likely RealD®. RealD® 3D experience is using polarized glasses NOT anagylph.

Just remember, the next time you go to the movies, grab a pair of individually wrapped 3D glasses and wonder what it would be like with your own Oakley Gascan 3D glasses . . . it would be way better.

Bolle Vortex Sunglasses 2011 Outside Gear of the Year

Bolle is one of the most trusted names in the sport eyewear industry. Widely recognizable, the Bolle brand has been in the business of sport eyewear for decades. The Bolle Vortex Sunglass is at the head of the peloton! Designed with cyclists and runners in mind, the Bolle Vortex is a prime example of Bolle craftsmanship and expertise.

Bolle Vertex Sunglasses

The Bolle Vortex Sunglasses were named 2011 Outside Gear of the Year by Outside Magazine.

The most important piece of information to remember when choosing the perfect glasses for cycling or running is to pay attention to what you need as a consumer. Weather conditions, an emphasis on leisure or competition, and affordability are all key forces one must consider when choosing a frame. The Bolle Vortex stands up against all of these considerations and comes out in first place.

In fact, in a recent Outside Magazine, the Bolle Vortex Sunglasses were chosen as the Gear of the Year for 2011. “It looks fast, right? It is. Bolle Gets sports performance right with this sleek race-ready shield.” (Outside Magazine)

This full coverage shield frame is perfect for the outdoor enthusiast, added ventilation at the temples helps against fogging. A special Hydrophobic coating is a hallmark of the Bolle Vortex, helping moisture from rain or sweat to drip cleanly off the lenses. The Hydrophobic coating actually repels the moisture at a molecular level!

The lenses, as always, are made of Bolle’s patented Trivex® material which meets the ANSI standards for impact protection, optical clarity and UV protection. These are all key factors to consider when choosing the frame to suit your needs. Any cyclist will agree, having a pair of sunglasses that perform this well is a must for any cycling (or running) enthusiast.

Outside Gear of the YearThe awesome features of this Bolle Vortex Sunglass are not over yet! Thermogrip nosepads and temples actually increase hold with perspiration and Rx-able inserts can even be made! While the lenses themselves are not prescription friendly, this RX insert means you can utilize all of the lens options without having to pay for your prescription in each and every one, which saves you money!

Whether a professional athlete or just looking for that right frame to suit all of your occasional outdoor needs, the velocity has passed the test. It is the perfect frame for the outdoor enthusiast or the average Joe. Don’t miss out on this great frame, found at Frames Direct!

Sunglasses in the Winter

So the sun might be out less and you might be spending less time outdoors, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have a use for sunglasses. Even when the sun is hidden in the clouds, the harmful UV rays still reach your eyes. And if you surrounded by snow during the winter, on a ski vacation, or just at home, sunglasses are just as imperative as if you were on the beach because the snow reflects the sunlight up to your face. Also, fashion is a year-round phenomenon that doesn’t disappear with seasons. So if you want to stay looking stylish during the winter, you gotta have shades.

On that note, here are a few models of sunglasses that are great for brightening up your winter blues:

Oakley Split Jacket
A classic model from Oakley, these shades are perfect for winter because they come with a pair of interchangeable lenses, they have a stylish Oakley look, and they’re great for sports activities. If it’s cloudy outside or lowlight conditions, simply switch out the lighter lenses so you can still get UV protection despite the lack of direct sunlight.

Oakley Split Jacket sunglasses come with interchangable lenses for cloudy days.

Polarized Ray-Ban Aviator
If there is one model of sunglasses that never goes out of style, it’s Ray-Ban Aviators. These shades have been around for over 50 years and have been made famous by rock stars, politicians, and Hollywood in general. Best of all, they look great on men and women. Buying a pair of Aviators will probably be the best fashion investment you’ll ever make because you can wear them year-round, you’ll never grow out of them, and they’ll never go out of style. Winterize your Aviators by getting a polarized pair of lenses to block the sunlight’s glare from the snow, ice, and car windshields.

Ray-Ban Aviators have polarized lenses available to block the sun's glare from snow.

D&G DD 8058
One color that is always in fashion during the winter is black, and D&G have some of the most stylish black frames for women. The DD 8058 is the classic 60’s throwback model that matches with whatever outfit you may be adorning. Plus, if you’re walking the snowy streets of London or NYC, the big black lenses are large enough to block the sunlight that is reflecting off the snow from reaching your eyes.

D&G has several pairs of sunglases with black frames, which never go out of style.

Electric Velveteen
Wake up the winter slumber with these bright and bold shades from Electric. The Velveteen model comes in several different vibrant color combinations, and is perfect if you want to stand out amongst the grey and monotone colors that usually follow fall fashion. These are a great pair of sunglasses to start off a bright new year with.

Ray-Ban’s Rare Prints Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality: What does that term even really mean? Isn’t all reality augmented by the various attributes that distort reality into what it is? Do cigarettes and caffeine count as reality augmenters? In that sense, does sobriety for alcoholics do the same? These are questions that may never be answered, and are probably outright ignored by Ray-Ban, even though they’re hosting an augmented reality experience of their own on their Rare Prints site.

Here’s how the Ray-Ban Rare Finds Contest works:

Rare Print ads have been placed in various magazines world wide, like Rolling Stone and Maxim. After downloading a plug-in from Ray-Ban’s Website, hold one of these ads up to your web cam and you’ll start to see all kinds of nifty graphics unfold on your screen. The screen will then link you to hidden videos and other cool things to watch, and a contest code at the end. The contest code allows the chance to win all sorts of other cool things, like concert tickets, Ray-Ban gear and such. You chances of winning increase the more times you play.

So that’s how Ray-Ban Rare Prints augments reality. You can find out more about it by watching this video below. If I could win anything I wanted from Ray-Ban, it would probably be a pair of polarized Aviators, simply because I’ve always wanted a pair but never could squeeze it in my budget. ~ Carson
