Ray-Ban’s Rare Prints Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality: What does that term even really mean? Isn’t all reality augmented by the various attributes that distort reality into what it is? Do cigarettes and caffeine count as reality augmenters? In that sense, does sobriety for alcoholics do the same? These are questions that may never be answered, and are probably outright ignored by Ray-Ban, even though they’re hosting an augmented reality experience of their own on their Rare Prints site.

Here’s how the Ray-Ban Rare Finds Contest works:

Rare Print ads have been placed in various magazines world wide, like Rolling Stone and Maxim. After downloading a plug-in from Ray-Ban’s Website, hold one of these ads up to your web cam and you’ll start to see all kinds of nifty graphics unfold on your screen. The screen will then link you to hidden videos and other cool things to watch, and a contest code at the end. The contest code allows the chance to win all sorts of other cool things, like concert tickets, Ray-Ban gear and such. You chances of winning increase the more times you play.

So that’s how Ray-Ban Rare Prints augments reality. You can find out more about it by watching this video below. If I could win anything I wanted from Ray-Ban, it would probably be a pair of polarized Aviators, simply because I’ve always wanted a pair but never could squeeze it in my budget. ~ Carson

Wiley X doesn’t recommend trying it at home, but these amazing lenses are also tested to withstand the impact of a .25” steel ball fired at 150fps from all angles. Plus, the system also passes the Military spectacle impact standard MIL-PRF-31013, comprised of a .15 caliber projectile traveling at a minimum 640 fps. – so you’ll have the confidence of knowing that your sight will be protected from flying casings and other debris and you can keep your eyes and your concentration on the job at hand.

Baroque Sunglasses by Versace

Versace Luxury Eyewear
Versace Luxury Eyewear Fall 2010 Baroque-print sunglasses.

It’s nice to see a name brand designer pull out a sunglasses style that’s really cool, yet completely out of left field. Versace has hit that ball with their latest Fall 2010 Baroque-print sunglasses. Word has it that this ultra-sleek design was inspired by Alice in Wonderland, with its swirly patterns and flamboyantly clashing colors.

The frame style reminds me of Ray-Ban Wayfarers: a classic design that’s fit for multiple occasions. I’m looking forward to seeing these bedazzling shades on celebrity faces on the web, since that’s probably as close as I’ll ever get to them.

For a mental picture of what these shades look like, check out the pics below. Read more
